FAQ for Passengers

What happens if my volunteer driver is late to pick me up?

In order for passengers to feel confident in the service, drivers are asked to contact the passenger at least the day before the appointment to confirm the details and arrange a suitable pick-up time. Should something unforeseen happen, e.g. accident or breakdown, the driver will be able to contact the passenger to let them know.

What happens if I miss my appointment?

We endeavour to make sure this doesn’t happen, however, we cannot guarantee traffic conditions. We advise passengers to have a mobile phone and their appointment details with them so they can contact the hospital, GP, etc. and let them know of any delays en route.

How much does the service cost to use?

The service itself has no charge; however we ask that you make a donation to cover the mileage costs of your driver and the booking fee, details of suggested donations will be included in the passenger registration pack sent.

Will my driver wait for me?

Your driver will wait for up to an hour once they have dropped you at your appointment. If you feel like you will be longer than an hour, you can book a ‘leave and collect’ service.

How can I make an appointment?

Bookings can only be taken by telephone, 01482 868082, Monday to Friday, between 9:00 & 12:00.

How far in advance do I need to book my journey in for?

As much notice as you are able to give us is appreciated, as soon as you have your appointment details please ring as we do get booked up quite quickly. We will try to accommodate short notice appointments (minimum of 48 hrs), but cannot guarantee we will be able to get a driver.

Do I need to register to use the service?

Yes, you’ll need to sign up so that we have basic information detailing your needs as a passenger and your location, meaning we will be able to match you to a volunteer driver.

Is there a minimum age that someone must be to use the service?

The service is available for anyone over the age of 18, who cannot easily access any other form of transport.

Am I allowed to have a carer, friend or family member travel with me for support?

Yes, you may bring a carer, friend or family member with you for support when you attend your appointment. You must give us notice when you book your appointment that you will be bringing an additional passenger so that this can be coordinated and accommodated by our team and the volunteer drivers. This will incur no cost as the length of the journey would be the same as it would be without the additional passengers.

General

How does the service match up a volunteer driver and a passenger?

We will look to find a driver who lives in the same general area as the passenger and, if required, someone with a car that can accommodate mobility aids (wheeled walkers, folding wheelchairs, etc.). Please note we are unable to take anyone who needs to travel in their wheelchair as the vehicles used are not equipped for these types of journey.
